Data Scientist Opportunity with the CASC’s

A Data Scientist position with the U.S. Geological Survey will post soon to USAJOBS. This position will join the data management team at the Climate Adaptation Science Centers, contributing to data management needs across the entire lifespan of CASC-funded projects. The data scientist role will serve as a data steward to help CASC-funded researchers meet USGS open data requirements and ensure that CASC data holdings align with current USGS data policies and standards. In this recruitment, we intend to hire one position across two series: GS-0401-11/12 Biologist and GS-1301-11/12 Physical Scientist using direct hire authority. This position is telework-eligible, with duty station location negotiable within the US.

The selected candidate will:

 

  • Participate in planning and conducting comprehensive data management lifecycle activities.
  • Work with researchers to summarize and package their data and metadata for dissemination.
  • Use tools and standards to review and approve data and metadata, create digital identifiers, and create public friendly landing pages for the data.
  • Work with a variety of researchers and staff to create a positive and productive working environment.
  • Prepare presentations and briefings for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide regular feedback and status updates to leadership and researchers.
  • Track and manage the status of all funded projects and update as needed based on any change in status.
  • Work with sensitive data – including those concerning Tribes and Indigenous communities, threatened and endangered species, and social science data.
  • Modify and adapt standard data management techniques, processes, and procedures.
