Coastal Resilience Fellowship Positions Announced for Hawaiʻi

NOAA recently launched the Coastal Resilience Fellowship Program to support the Climate Resilience Regional Challenge, a national effort to boost climate resilience in the nation’s coastal and Great Lakes states and territories. Funding includes $68.5 million for a project in Hawaiʻi. Up to two fellows will be chosen to support the project.
The two-year fellowship begins in June 2025, with applications being accepted through February 28, 2025. Project descriptions and fellowship specifics for each location are posted on the website. A graduate degree is not required; education requirements vary by project and range from high school graduate to graduate degree level. Focus areas for Hawaii include community resilience, capacity building, and disaster preparedness and recovery.
Fellowship project summaries are provided below.
- Community-Engaged Research and Capacity Building Fellow. This fellow will support the Āina Restoration Through Community Governance to Advance Climate Resilience in the Hawaiian Islands project, helping with programming, administration, and technical advising for Hawaiʻi Sea Grant’s Community Resilience Grants Program. About the Fellowship
The Climate Resilience Regional Challenge is a grant program focused on coastal resilience. The $575 million in funding was awarded to 19 applicants throughout the coastal zone. To further ensure the success of these efforts, NOAA created the Coastal Resilience Fellowship.
The fellowship offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $42,000 to $56,000, depending on the cost of living in the fellowship location, plus medical benefits and travel and relocation expense reimbursement.
