May 1, 2025
May is Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month (HISAM)
HISAM is an annual event dedicated to educating and mobilizing the residents of Hawaiʻi to protect our islands from the threats posed by invasive species. This year’s theme- “What’s at Risk?”- invites us to explore the places, communities, plants and animals we love, mauka to makai, and the actions we can take to reduce the impacts of invasive species.
Throughout May, HISAM is offering multiple ways to learn, connect, and volunteer:
- Free educational webinars featuring experts in conservation and invasive species management
- Volunteer workdays in communities statewide where you can get your hands in the ‘āina removing invasive species from forests, wetlands, farms, and coastal areas
- Awards for local heroes and efforts recognizing those making a difference in our islands
