Researcher Patrick Hart was recently interviewed by Catherine Cruz on Hawaiʻi Public Radio about his Pacific Islands Climate Adaptation Science Center (PI-CASC) funded project. His research leverages technological advances in monitoring Native Hawaiian forest bird populations by using a combination of automated devices that record the sounds of the forest, or soundscapes, and machine-learning algorithms that can rapidly identify birds singing within those soundscapes.
