Part of Climate Week

The Pacific Islands Climate Adaptation Science Center and its partners at the Hawaiʻi State Climate Commission, Hawaiʻi Sea Grant, Pacific RISA, and the East-West Center, have put together a full week of activities and discussions associated with climate adaptation across Hawaiʻi. The PI-CASC 2023 Hawaiʻi Climate Adaptation Science Summit is only one part of this broader event. For more on Climate Week, see a brief agenda at the bottom of this page or visit the Climate Commission website.

Intended participants

This event is intended for researchers, resource managers, officials, practitioners, and other science-users working on climate change impacts and adaptation for ecosystems and communities in Hawaiʻi and the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands. Events are designed for in-person participation, but will be broadcast via Zoom webinar.

Objectives will include

  • Meeting the players in the region to learn more about efforts in Hawai‘i and US-Affiliated Pacific Islands focused on climate adaptation science for managing changing conditions in three topical themes:
    • Drought and wildfire in the Pacific Islands
    • Integrated watershed science (PI-AK)
    • Sea level rise adaptation science
  • Exploring researcher-manager-practitioner engagement toward actionable science
  • Linking to human elements of climate adaptation
